As with most families, we heard on Sunday, March 15, 2020 that all schools were closing in response to the COVID 19 outbreaks. Suddenly our family was faced with shifting our lives from busy (likely over-scheduled), on-the-go, and always out to not leaving our small 1370 square foot duplex. As I was thinking ahead to "distance learning," and flipping through educational resources for teachers and families, I came across this from Kelly Gallagher (and educator in the Bay Area) in a letter to his students:
You are living through an unprecedented moment in history—right now! Today,
tomorrow, and the days that follow will be captured in history books. Someday, you will share
stories with your children and grandchildren about living through this time. Because these days
are historical, it is critical that we not let these events pass without capturing how they affect
you, your family, your school, and your community.
I thought maybe we should find a way to record this time in our lives.
